What’s in Clarityn Tablets?
The active ingredient is loratadine. Each tablet contains 10mg loratadine. The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, maize starch and magnesium stearate. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
When should I take Clarityn Tablets?
For the relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis (for example, hayfever ), such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose and burning or itchy eyes. Clarityn Tablets may also help to relieve the symptoms of urticaria (itching and redness), often known as hives or nettle rash. The effects of each tablet can last for a full day.
Are Clarityn Tablets suitable for children?
Clarityn Tablets are suitable for children over the age of 6 who weigh more than 30kg.
What are the side effects of Clarityn Tablets?
Like all medicines, Clarityn Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. For adults and children over the age of 12, the most commonly reported side effects are:
- Drowsiness
- Headache
- Increased appetite
- Difficulty sleeping
For children aged under 12, the most commonly reported side effects are:
- Headache
- Nervousness
- Tiredness
The following side effects are very rare and may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people, and have also been seen during the marketing of loratadine:
- Severe allergic reaction (including swelling)
- Dizziness
- Convulsion
- Fast or irregular heartbeat
- Nausea (feeling sick)
- Dry mouth
- Upset stomach
- Liver problems
- Hair loss
- Rash
- Tiredness
The frequency of the following side effect is unknown:
- Weight gain
Will Clarityn Tablets make me feel sleepy?
At the recommended dose, Clarityn Tablets are not expected to cause you to be drowsy or less alert. However, very rarely some people do experience drowsiness, which may affect their ability to drive or operate machinery.
Are Clarityn Tablets suitable for everyone?
You should not take ClaritynTablets if:
- You are allergic (hypersensitive) to loratadine or any of the other ingredients (see above)
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking Clarityn Tablets if:
- You have liver disease
- You are scheduled to have any skin tests for allergies. Do not take Clarityn Tablets for two days before having these tests
Do not give Clarityn Tablets to children under 6 years old or to children who weigh 30kg or less.
